I really wasn't sure what Palliative Care was until I got very ill. A little over 3 years ago I was diagnosed with Leukemia and prescribed daily oral chemotherapy which I'm still taking today. Because of this, I have to have bloodwork done sometimes multiple times a month. Almost 2 years ago I was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). I was getting tired of the bi-monthly visits with at least 2 hours wait time every visit with the GP that I had been seeing for 3 years with no real answers. The pain meds the GP prescribed were no longer helping me. I've lost over 60 pounds and was just so frustrated. I researched Palliative Care and told my boyfriend/partner that I was ready to try it. That's how we found Phil Gallinaro ,FNP of Sierra Hospice and Palliative Care. Phil has changed everything for me and has given me so much hope. He has never not been available and that is so important to me. I'm 71 years old and now I'm not depressed daily which changed everything for me. My pain is under control and I'm so grateful. Phil the NP is the absolute best human I’ve ever met. He is taking care of my father in law (palliative) and Phil has gone above and beyond to help us make sure he’s comfortable and taken care of. My personal experience with Sierra Hospice of Henderson has been one evident by their true dedication to showing myself and my family: compassion, kindness, empathy, understanding along with their unwavering support. Anytime I call with concerns or questions you always get a caring live person on the other end of the phone willing to help or direct me through whatever is going on at the time! I want to say that at a time when everything seemed so uncertain with my life- talking to and meeting Phil (one of the Owners himself) I felt like I became part of the family! I knew right away and was assured that I made the best decision in placing my trust and care in this highly respected family based company where being treated like family and compassion is key and go hand in hand! From CNA’s to the RN’s to the volunteers, their staff has consistently demonstrated how they excel in what they do best! No matter who I am trying to reach and regardless of the time of day or night it is, I always get a live person who cares and helps throughout every stage I am going through. The Nurses too, they see that every aspect of my care is being treated, they offer a social worker to help me with practical issues; until you or a loved one have to face you wouldn’t realize everything that needs to be addressed, yet Sierra Hospice has never left me on my own to figure out! On a Sunday morning Phil, (one of the Owners) jumped in to help me when I was in so much pain and my RN had a family emergency- they help one another out within the company and that is something you don’t see or hear in the business industry today! Just knowing that this company is here to provide my family and I with the much-needed comfort and support during this very difficult time, it means more than a review could ever convey! I am deeply grateful for Sierra Hospice and I conclude by saying- if you or your Loved One is looking for a place that will treat you like family and is happy and willing to help- Choose them- You could Never Regret it! I Love being home with those who I love- not in a hospital setting that is depressing, scary and let’s all agree, they don’t take care of you like family or become your Home! Phil, Dana, and the entire staff are doing God’s work. To be able to do the job that they are tasked with and remain humble, caring, loving and tender throughout the toughest time we all face, the end of a lived one’s life, is truly an awesome calling.
